Sustainable finance: ESGeneration Italy is born from Borsa Italiana, ItaSIF and FeBAF

The “network” promoted by the three organizations will participate in the global network of Financial Centers for Sustainability (FC4S) established after the last Italianled G7. It will be presented on October 1st in a webinar with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Ilaria Fontana.

Milan, September 20th 2021 – Consolidating Italy’s active role in sustainable finance globally, supporting the international positioning of the financial community and contributing to the dissemination of the culture of sustainability by sharing analyzes and best practices. These are the main objectives of ESGeneration Italy, the National Network for Global Sustainable Finance promoted by Borsa Italiana (Italian Stock Exchange), the Italian Sustainable Investment Forum (ItaSIF) and the Italian Banking Insurance and Finance Federation (FeBAF) which will be presented on October 1st as part of the initiatives related to the Pre-COP26.
ESGeneration Italy expresses the continuity of the commitment of Borsa Italiana, ItaSIF and FeBAF on sustainability and in the wake of the works completed in 2019 by the Observatory on Sustainable Finance at the Ministry of the Environment. The three organizations in fact led the working group for the establishment of the Italian Financial Center for Sustainability assuming its representation within the global network of Financial Centers for Sustainability (International Network of Financial Centers for Sustainability – FC4S) launched within the last Italian-led G7 in 2017.
The network is inspired by common principles of sustainable finance and in particular: enhancement of ESG criteria, transparency and medium-long term horizon. All principles that are contained in the “Sustainable and Responsible Investment Charter for Italian finance” signed in 2012 and which are also confirmed in the elaboration of the definition of “Sustainable and Responsible Investment” developed by ItaSIF in collaboration with its members in 2014. In recent days, the establishment of the network was signed by the CEO of the Italian Stock Exchange, Raffaele Jerusalmi, the Secretary General of the Italian Sustainable Investment Forum, Francesco Bicciato, and FeBAF’s Secretary General, Paolo Garonna.

“The birth of ESGeneration Italy – said Jerusalmi – confirms Borsa Italiana’s commitment to contributing to the development in Italy of increasingly sustainable financial and capital markets. As part of the Euronext Group, we play a key role in supporting and facilitating the growth of a financial ecosystem capable of promoting a long-term sustainable economy. In this sense, ESGeneration Italy is part of a series of initiatives aimed at spreading the culture of sustainable finance and raising awareness among companies in the choice of increasingly circular growth paths”.
“For ItaSIF, which in 2021 celebrates twenty years of activity – said the Secretary General of the Italian Sustainable Investment Forum, Francesco Bicciato – ESGeneration Italy represents a further consolidation of the best practices collected and valued to date: we are committed to this new initiative by making our experience and our national and international partnership available”.
“As FeBAF, we will bring the experience of our associative world and the relationships we have built and increased over the years at a European and global level”, declared Paolo Garonna, for which “the decision to establish the network in this moment of centrality of our country in the main international fora is significant, including COP26 e G20”.

ESGeneration Italy will be presented on October 1st in a webinar entitled “Financing the ‘just transition’: from commitment to action”, which will include – among others – the participation of Ilaria Fontana (Undersecretary of the Ministry of Ecological Transition), Stephen Nolan (Managing Director, FC4S), Ivan Faiella (Bank of Italy), Giulia Genuardi (Enel) and Luciano Monti (Luiss).
